LIONS (Panthera leo)
MAKHUTSWI PRIDE

Number of sightings this month: 14
What a month it has been for our Lions. The fighter and the lover – as some of us now call them, have been very busy and could hardly keep up with all the females. One day they will be mating with the Tembe females, the next just enjoying the Makhutswi females and their cub’s company. Phantom and Miljon are so to say Makalali’s kings. They are the two most dominant males and more popular amongst the girls than any other male. Our young prince Kalahari jnr turned 4 this month and looking like a model. With not a scar on his face, it is clear that he has not come face to face with other males yet. Even though he is seen very often with the Tembe females, he did not have the opportunity to mate with them, as Phatnom or Miljon is seen the very next day in the same area, with the girls. It is only a matter of time, before these three boys bump heads. The curios two young boys now almost two years old, are still very playful and do not mind coming up close to the land cruisers to investigate and get their picture taken. The cubs are getting bigger everyday and not as shy as their mothers. One of the Makhutswi females even earned a new nickname because of her interesting attitude...
ASKARI PRIDE
Number of sightings this month: 5
It seems like our young Askari brothers are ready to become fathers for the first time. We were surprised on early morning to find one of the Makhutswi females mating with one of them. The same female was found last month mating with Phantom. So it is clear that she is not pregnant and decided to give his son a try. She was seen without her young sons for a couple of days, and after she left her mate behind, her tracks were found, and now seems to have reunited with them...
TEMBE PRIDE
Number of sightings this month: 13
As said earlier, the big boys were busy. I did so enjoy this sighting one evening, of Phantom softly caressing this female’s back. Flirting like crazy, it was clear that she really enjoyed his company. They were lying right in the road, were later they disappeared in to the thick bushes for some privacy. Kalahari jnr still keeps the Tembe girls company, while Phantom and Miljon are of entertaining another pride, and the girls do not mind having him as a replacement. The Tembe males are still with the Askari pride and we could be expecting cubs soon...
